The majority of individual CAUT members are affiliate members, that is, members of CAUT by virtue of their faculty association or union belonging to CAUT. The information about individuals collected by CAUT from member faculty associations is restricted to name and business address and as such is not considered personal information.

CAUT may collect personal information about individuals who participate on committees or task forces, who request legal assistance or employment assistance, apply for associate membership, apply for scholarships, register for conferences and educational programs, donate to an associated charity, or purchase advertising in or subscribe to the CAUT Bulletin.

If you provide personal information to us for any of these reasons, you can do so with the understanding that your personal information will be protected. Whether in electronic or paper-based format, CAUT maintains strict security systems to safeguard your information from unauthorized access, disclosure or misuse. As well, when we no longer need your personal information, it will be safely destroyed.

In the event that we transfer your personal information to a third party for processing (for example mail house distribution) we contractually require any organization to protect our members' confidentiality in a manner consistent with our procedures or as required by law.

CAUT Web Sites

CAUT is committed to respecting the privacy of all visitors to our web sites. Our policy is clear: we will collect no personal information about you when you visit our web sites unless you choose to provide that information to us.

Information Automatically Collected and Stored
If you do nothing during your visit but browse through our web sites, read pages, or download information, we will gather and store certain information about your visit automatically. This information does not identify you personally. We automatically collect and store only the following information about your visit:

1. The Internet Protocol (IP) address from which you access our web sites;
2. The date and time you access our sites;
3. The pages you visit.

We use this information for statistical analysis to help us make our sites more useful to visitors. Such information is not correlated with any personal information.

Personally Provided Information
You do not have to give us personal information to visit our web sites. If you choose to provide us with additional information about yourself through an e-mail message or form, we will only maintain the information as long as needed to respond to your question or to fulfill the stated purpose of the communication.

Use of Cookies
CAUT may use cookies from time to time. A cookie is a unique text file that a web site can send to your browser software. CAUT uses non-persistent cookies within multiple page online forms to remember you from page to page. These cookies do not store any personal information and are deleted at the end of your visit. Rejecting cookies will make these forms unusable.

Security
CAUT employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. This software receives and records the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer that has contacted our network, the date and time of the visit and the pages visited. We make no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting our sites unless an attempt to damage a site has been detected.
In certain areas, such as when you provide credit card information to us, we work to help protect the security of your information during transmission by using industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption technology.

Consent

CAUT accepts the following two methods as your consent for existing and future collection, use and disclosure of your personal information for identified purposes:

1. your express written consent or oral consent as obtained through an application process
2. implied consent by requesting information, assistance, or acquiring a product or service

The achievement of CAUT's objectives involves communicating with its membership. If an individual member does not consent, then his/her personal information shall be used by CAUT for purposes of communicating with the member only for identified purposes and shall not be provided to anyone else.
