12-Month Limited-Term Position in Canadian History with Possibility of one Year Renewal
St. Francis Xavier University
Department of History – Limited Term Appointment
The Department of History at St. Francis Xavier University invites applications for a 12-month Limited-Term Position in Canadian history, broadly conceived, beginning May 8, 2023. This start date is intended to allow the candidate ample time to plan for their fall and winter courses. This position may be renewed for the 2024-2025 academic year subject to budgetary approval.
Candidates will be expected to teach 18 credits in the fall and winter terms (3, three-credit courses each term). The candidate will be required to teach the following: HIST 213: Life and Times: Pre-Confederation Canada and HIST 215 A History of Canada: Post-Confederation, and upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
Applicants should possess a PhD (or be near its completion), must show evidence of strong teaching ability at the undergraduate level, and have an active research program. While we are not requesting a teaching dossier at this time, we would find it helpful for applicants to address in the cover letter their general approach to teaching Canadian history and their current and future research plans. Electronic applications, including a curriculum vitae, letter of application, the names and contact information of three references, should be emailed to:
