Athabasca University

The Centre for Humanities in Athabasca University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing September 1, 2019. This is a full-time position located in Alberta.

Athabasca University is a fully-accredited, post-secondary institution with a commitment to facilitating open access to education.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Philosophy. PhDs in related disciplines may be considered. We welcome candidates with diverse research and teaching specializations, but we have needs in the following areas: Ethics and Applied/Practical ethics, especially environmental ethics, Eastern Philosophy, Indigenous Philosophy, and History of Western Philosophy. The candidate will be expected to develop new courses as determined by the requirements of program development and their research interests.

Evidence of teaching excellence is required, and familiarity with online systems of course delivery and distance education preferred. Experience teaching and advising professional working students and graduate students would also be considered assets. The candidate will participate in program coordination duties and related tasks appropriate to the maintenance and growth of a professional degree articulation program. All educational credentials must be recognized in Canada.
