Assistant/Associate Professor (Clinical) Human Genetics

McGill University

The McGill University Department of Human Genetics is inviting applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor (Clinical), in the division of Medical Genetics at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and the Jewish General Hospital. The professorial rank will be according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The successful candidate should have expertise in one of the following areas; 1) adult genetics; 2) pediatric genetics; 3) prenatal diagnosis; 4) cancer genetics. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment. The successful candidate would also be expected to develop an independent clinical research program.

The divisions in the two hospitals offer a full range of clinical activity in Medical Genetics across all age ranges. The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) has integration of its pediatric care, adult care, prenatal services and research facilities on a single site. The MUHC’s upgraded custom‐built facilities incorporate comprehensive clinical care, research and teaching with the latest technological and diagnostic platforms, in an innovative and stimulating inter‐disciplinary environment. The Jewish General Hospital is the major teaching hospital of the CIUSSS - Centre Ouest Montreal. The Division of Medical Genetics at this hospital has its major focus of care in the areas of Hereditary Cancer and Prenatal Diagnosis.

The McGill Department of Human Genetics is home to a residency program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Canadian College of Medical Geneticists fellowship programs in clinical and laboratory genetics, and a Master of Science in genetic counseling program. JOB DUTIES:
The candidate is also expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission, and demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all areas. This includes providing excellent clinical teaching and supervision to a diverse group of residents and medical students, being involved in academic/administrative committees and pursuing scholarly activities in advancing clinical care or clinical research in the area mentioned above. As a faculty member of the Department of Human Genetics, Faculty of Medicine, the applicant will have clinical, administrative and academic responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

Requirements:
Hold or be eligible for licensure as a medical geneticist in the province of Quebec. Applicants certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics must be eligible for certification by one of the two Canadian Colleges (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists).

Assets:
Knowledge of the French language
Expertise in publications in the areas of skeletal dysplasia and the clinical usefulness of next generation sequencing.
