The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications for a tenure-track position in the School of Economics at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with proposed starting date of July 1, 2023. The School is open to all scientific approaches to economic inquiries and encourages interdisciplinary scholarship within the Faculty of Business and Economics and across other Faculties at UNBC. The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, scholarly research activities and service duties. Teaching duties will entail teaching a course in Sustainable Economic Development as well as Northern BC in the Global Economy, Political Economy of Development, and other courses as needed at the undergraduate and graduate (Master’s) levels.
The successful candidate is expected to establish an outstanding independent program of research with relevance to small and remote communities and resource industries in Northern British Columbia and beyond. Also, ability to establish industrial/community partnerships, including Indigenous communities will be an asset. Candidates must present evidence of:
• A record of successful scholarly research or activities, or the potential of building such a record as evidenced by, but not limited to, peer-reviewed publications, working papers, public policy contributions, presentations at academic conferences, and other creative or professional work;
• Demonstrated teaching excellence or potential for excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels as evidenced by a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy statement, experience with course and curriculum review and/or development, examples of effective use of classroom technology, sample syllabi, strong teaching evaluations, teaching awards, any experience with experiential learning, and other relevant achievements in teaching;
• Commitment to UNBC values of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and an ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the School and the University through collegial service.
Applicants for this position should hold a doctoral degree in Economics by the appointment date or shortly thereafter. For this position, we seek an individual with a particular interest and specialization in one or more of the fields of Sustainable Development, Ecological Economics, Renewable Resources and Conservation, Indigenous Economic Development, and Political Economy of Development.

It includes a satellite campus in the coastal community of Prince Rupert.
