Assistant or Associate Professor, Canada Research Chair Tier 2 in Precision Nutrition

The University of Guelph is internationally renowned for its innovative research in agriculture, food and nutrition, and its complementary strengths in the health and life sciences. Vital to this continuum is understanding the genetic and molecular basis of how foods and nutrients influence cell, tissue and whole-body function. The University is seeking an NSERC Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Precision Nutrition to provide expertise on the mechanisms linking the two strategic pillars of food and health in new and innovative ways.

Precision nutrition advances the concept of personalized nutrition and aims to elucidate the mechanisms (e.g., genetic, microbial, etc.) that influence individual variability to lifestyle interventions and disease risk. The Chair will be expected to develop a multidisciplinary and collaborative research program that will advance precision nutrition and contribute to graduate and undergraduate mentoring and training. The Chair will serve as a catalyst for innovative fundamental and basic science research in precision nutrition, building on existing institutional strengths and aligning with the University’s Strategic Research Plan (https://www.uoguelph.ca/research/about-us/strategic-research-plan).

The appointment will be tenure-track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Tier 2 Chairs are awarded for a five-year term and can be renewed only once. Details about the CRC program are found at www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca.

Eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair requires that applicants are exceptional emerging scholars and have fewer than 10 years of experience as an active researcher in their field at the time of nomination. Nonetheless, applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree, where career breaks exist, such as parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, or other exceptional circumstances, ay have their eligibility assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. The Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences is at the forefront of research linking lifestyle and health and offers state-of-the-art-facilities for human and animal research in the nutritional and biomedical sciences.
