Assistant or Associate Professor, Faculty of Social Work

University of Manitoba

Position Numbers 24906 and 24907

The Faculty of Social Work (Fort Garry Campus) of the University of Manitoba invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, beginning on 1 July 2018.

Applications are invited from those with expertise in a variety of fields in social work, with favourable consideration given to applicants with strengths in one or more of these areas: direct practice with individuals and families; leadership, management and policy; Indigenous approaches in social work and practice in Indigenous communities; and international social work.

The Faculty of Social Work is one of the largest social work programs in Canada, with a proud history of teaching, research and service spanning almost 75 years. The Faculty offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in Social Work. We recently launched a ground-breaking MSW program based in Indigenous Knowledges. Our programs are fully accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education. We are excited to be in a period of renewal of the Faculty and building for the future.

Our Faculty is strongly committed to knowledge creation and dissemination in social work. We are increasing our profile as a centre of funded research and publication of scholarly work of high academic merit that reaches a broad audience in the academy and beyond. We are also dedicated to innovative and effective teaching, including the use of information technology and blended learning approaches. In our service mission, we have longstanding and multiple connections with Indigenous peoples and communities, with diverse cultural communities, and with a wide range of service and professional organizations in Manitoba and beyond. Additional information about the Faculty can be found at: http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/social_work/

Candidates for these positions must have a PhD completed or near completion at the time of application, and at least one other degree from an accredited social work program. A successful candidate who is close to completion of their doctoral studies will be appointed to a term position at the rank of Lecturer until completion of their PhD, and must successfully complete the PhD within a specified time period before appointment as a tenure-track Assistant Professor.

Candidates must have the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate level, to supervise graduate students, and to develop a strong and ongoing program of research and publication. Applicants who have an established research program and success in teaching Social Work in a University setting can be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level. Candidates should also be familiar with the use of on-line, blended and other modes for the distance delivery of social work education. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

These positions are based at the Fort Garry Campus of the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.
