Emily Carr University of Art + Design invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor position in 3D Computer Animation within the Faculty of Design and Dynamic Media. Situated on unceded, traditional and ancestral xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territories in Vancouver, Canada, Emily Carr University is a world-renowned learning and research community dedicated to the education of artists and designers.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
We seek candidates who can work effectively in interdisciplinary teams on curriculum that will prepare students to meet and exceed current 3D computer animation profession demands, as well as inspire them to grow as creative and critical thinkers with their own unique styles of storytelling. Candidates should possess the ability to teach students at multiple levels, from Foundation to Graduate Studies, and will be expected to contribute to developing curriculum in an institution that is committed to the interrelation of theory and practice. Additionally, faculty are expected to participate in portfolio reviews, upper-level design critiques, provide student supervision, serve on administrative committees, and to be an active and engaged member of the Emily Carr community.
A successful candidate will bring their current knowledge and production expertise in 3D computer animation into the academic environment in order to create fulfilling learning experiences for students. They will have the following qualifications and/or related experience:
• Terminal degree (or equivalent experience) and industry experience in 3D Computer Animation production;
• Current professional experience in the animation industry as a 3D artist with experience as a lead artist or supervising artist at an internationally renowned studio;
• University-level or post-secondary teaching experience in a related subject area is preferable;
• A passion for teaching and intercultural competence: the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with people of various cultures;
• The ability to conduct/collaborate on research projects in digital media is preferable.
Preference will be given to candidates with expert technical proficiency and industry experience in one or more of the following key areas:
• 3D character animation;
• 3D creation (modeling / rigging / texturing);
• Look development, lighting/rendering.

Subject to budgetary approval, we anticipate commencement in August 2020. Salary and rank will be commensurate with professional status and teaching experience.
