Assistant Professor - Higher Education Leadership and Administration

The Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education (LHAE) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Higher Education Leadership and Administration. The appointment will commence on August 1, 2022 or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must have earned a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Higher Education or a closely related field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. We seek to recruit a scholar of higher education with demonstrated research expertise in higher education leadership and administration, and a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance existing strengths in LHAE's Higher Education program. Illustrative examples of possible specializations include traditional topics such as strategic planning, budgeting, organizational behaviour, and leadership, as well as emerging trends in the administration of college and professional programs, or a focus on equity and diversity in leadership.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence in research as evidenced by a record of publications in top-ranked journals in the field of higher education or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, strong endorsements from referees of high standing, and a well articulated research agenda described in the research statement submitted with the application.

Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level is required, as demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (including required materials outlined below). Demonstrated interest and experience teaching at the graduate level in higher education leadership and administration is preferred.

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest internatonal level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program in higher education leadership and administration. Other responsibilities of the position include teaching in Higher Education graduate degree programs, supervising doctoral and master’s theses, service to LHAE and to OISE, and working collaboratively with related units across OISE.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education offers graduate programs in Adult Education and Community Development, Educational Leadership and Policy, and Higher Education. The Department’s strength in Higher Education is internationally recognized and draws upon its affiliation with the Centre for the Study of Canadian & International Higher Education (CIHE), a community of engaged scholars dedicated to supporting, promoting, and disseminating research on Canadian and international higher education.
