The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta invites applications for one full-time, tenure-track faculty Assistant Professor position in Mechatronics and Controls. This position is part of the University of Alberta’s priority to build a diverse faculty; thus, candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have research expertise in the area of mechatronics and controls, with a focus on robotics, electromechanical systems, systems integration, controls, autonomous systems, smart buildings and infrastructure, advanced agricultural machinery, soft robotics, collaborative robotics, fleet robotics, mechatronic/biological systems integration, self-assembling systems, sensors and actuators, construction automation, and artificial intelligence-assisted systems. Successful candidates will also be expected to teach courses in engineering design, as well as in one or more of the areas of expertise listed above.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering. They are expected to be or become a licensed Professional Engineer through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA, https://www.apega.ca/). Licensure must be obtained within five years from the date of hire.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed to maintaining its position among the leading schools in North America. With a present complement of more than 50 faculty members, research in the Department is vigorous and covers all major areas of mechanical systems and controls, biomechanics, thermo-fluids, mechanics of materials, design and manufacturing, energy systems, and engineering management.
