Assistant Professor – Music Education

University of Lethbridge

The Faculty of Education at the University of Lethbridge invites applications to fill a tenure-track position in Music Education at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 1, 2020.

The appointment carries the following key expectations:
• Fluency with current theories and practices in the area of Elementary and Secondary Music Education
• Engagement in scholarly and/or creative work
• Contribution to the undergraduate program, including teaching undergraduate courses and the supervision of pre-service practicum students and intern teachers
• Contribution to the graduate teaching program, including teaching graduate courses and the supervision of graduate student research

Qualifications include a doctoral degree completed or near completion in Music Education, a minimum of two years successful K-12 classroom teaching experience, and eligibility for teacher certification in Alberta (B.Ed. or equivalent). Experience in teaching or leading school choirs, bands, musicals, or other productions preferred.

Applicants are also encouraged to indicate other areas of expertise relevant to teaching and research in education. The successful candidate will demonstrate exemplary teaching skills, a strong commitment to research and publication, and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with school systems. There may also be a possibility of exchange teaching with the Faculty of Fine Arts.
