The Department of Drama in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for a 1-year term appointment in Production Management and Stage Management at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing August 15, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. This position is subject to the approval of the Board of Governors.

An M.F.A. or appropriate terminal degree, demonstrated record of professional activity in production management and stage management, as well as demonstrated effectiveness in teaching at the post-secondary level are required. Candidates with extensive professional experience in Production Management and Stage Management, but who do not hold an M.F.A. or equivalent terminal degree may be considered for a term appointment as an Instructor in lieu of an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The University aspires to hire individuals who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and research/creative activity, and have the potential to serve actively in the Department of Drama and the Faculty of Fine Arts.

The successful candidate will be assigned the duties and responsibilities of Production Manager for the Department of Drama’s annual, curricular-driven theatrical offerings, which typically include four mainstage productions, two each per fall and spring terms. The Production Manager coordinates crews of students and technical staff, and works particularly closely with faculty members involved in various design and technical capacities on productions as well.

The responsibilities of the Production Manager include, but are not limited to, planning and facilitating production meetings; collaborating with director and designers and program faculty; ensuring excellent communication between directors, designers, crew, and cast; creating and implementing schedules; attending and note-taking during technical rehearsals; collecting and archiving forms and information from cast and crew; assuring performers and crew are on site; and organizing and running strike. The Production Manager will collaborate with faculty to facilitate an end-of-term showcase for coursework in both fall and spring terms and will also coordinate the overarching needs of TheatreXtra, our student-managed theatre group, that produces two fringe-style shows annually.

The successful candidate will be assigned to teach primarily undergraduate courses in Production and Stage Management and Theatre in Professional Contexts, with the potential for other courses to be assigned in the candidate’s area of expertise. The ability to teach other courses including design courses (lighting, scenic, makeup, sound) is an asset.
