About the Position:
The School of Social Work at Carleton University invites applications from qualified candidates for a preliminary (tenure-track) appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2022.
Priority will be given to candidates whose research has significant potential to contribute to improving community practice with racialized and Black communities. In particular we are looking for candidates who draw on critical race, anti-racist, anti-Black racist and decolonizing frameworks in their approach to community practice. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of post-MSW experience in social work practice with communities. Experience teaching practice courses that focus on providing students with skills to work effectively with communities either at the graduate or undergraduate levels is preferable.

The School of Social Work is committed to critical approaches to social work and offers programs at the Bachelor, Masters and PhD level with outstanding research expertise in social work education, social welfare policy, Indigenous knowledges, immigration and refugee issues, trauma, care work and clinical practice. This position requires a candidate with an MSW degree and a completed PhD in social work or a related field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of theories, approaches and skills relevant to community practice and a commitment to critical social work frameworks.
Lived experience in racialized and Black communities is an asset.
Candidates must demonstrate an emerging record of excellence in research as evidenced by an ability to attract external funding and high-quality field-relevant peer reviewed publications or forthcoming publications. The candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching, have solid practice experience in and with racialized and Black communities, and be supported by strong letters of reference. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing expertise in, critical approaches to social work practice, including Indigenous, critical disability and anti-racist approaches.
