About the Position
The Department of Sociology invites applications for a 12-month limited term appointment in Critical Animal Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment, subject to budgetary approval, will commence July 1, or August 1, 2023.

Applicants should have a PhD in Sociology or closely related field by the date of the appointment or shortly thereafter; demonstrated excellence in research; and demonstrated excellence in university teaching. Candidates who demonstrate decolonial and anti-racist praxis in teaching and research, and those with a track record of university-community collaboration are encouraged. In addition, the Department of Sociology is interested in attracting candidates who can contribute to Indigenizing the Department and the University.

We seek candidates with a record of demonstrated excellence in research and teaching in the field of Critical Animal Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and contribute to curriculum development in our Concentration and Minor in Critical Animal Studies. Preferred candidates will be prepared to teach Animals and the Law (cross-listed with Critical Criminology), Sociology of Wildlife, and Animals and Human Societies. In addition to engaging in a program of research and teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the affairs of the Department and fulfill service commitments to the Department and the University.
