POSTING FOR A TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION IN SOCIOLOGIE

The School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts at Laurentian University in Sudbury invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Sociologie. The preferred start date is January 1, 2024.

Candidates must have completed a PhD degree by the start date of the appointment. The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications:

• PhD in Sociology or in a related field;
• Capacity to give theory and methodology courses in the Sociologie and Criminologie programs;
• Participate actively, and on site, in the administration of programs and the supervision of students; build relationships between the University and the regional community;
• Evidence of the ability to effectively teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels;
• Demonstrated ability to adapt pedagogy to the academic subject and class size;
• Clear commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence, promoting a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment, and advancing Laurentian University’s bilingual and tricultural mandates;
• Though the teaching for this position is in French, the selected candidate is expected to have active knowledge of both official languages (functional bilingualism); passive comprehension of the English language (passive bilingualism) will be considered in exceptional cases;
• Evidence of very good research and scholarship with the potential to work collaboratively with colleagues, secure funding support, and build internal and external interdisciplinary or intersectoral collaborations;
• Commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive and vibrant academic and work environment.

In addition to active engagement and participation in teaching and research, the successful candidate will be expected to make contributions through service to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community.

Laurentian University, located on Atikameksheng Anishnawbek territory in Sudbury, Ontario, serves over 8000 students and is one of two bilingual universities in the province of Ontario.
