Assistant Professor (Teaching) Anatomy and Cell Biology
The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Division of Anatomical Sciences, invites applications for a full-time position as an Assistant Professor (Contract Academic Staff). This is a three-year term position, with possibility of renewal.
The Department has an impressive record of groundbreaking discoveries and acclaimed scientists going back over 150 years. The Division of Anatomical Sciences coordinates the instruction of human anatomy for a diverse group of undergraduate, graduate and professional program students. www.mcgill.ca/anatomy/ and www.mcgill.ca/anatomy/division-anatomical-sciences. The Department is looking for a candidate with a strong background and demonstrated excellence in both classroom and laboratory teaching in gross anatomy. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, the Assistant Professor will be based at the McGill Campus in Montreal for the first year of his/her appointment, and then be assigned to the Campus médical en Outaouais (CMO) starting September 1, 2020.
The successful candidate will:
• Integrate basic anatomical sciences into a clinical context
• Coordinate and teach lectures and instruct medical and dental education courses in gross anatomy
• Coordinate and teach the embryology section of the Fundamentals of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) curriculum
• Teach lectures and lab demonstrations in histology for medical and dental students
• Participate as an instructor in the Division of Anatomical Sciences International Clinical Dissection Program offered to health professionals across the world and assist in coordinating internal anatomy workshops at McGill
• Generate cadaveric prosections and specimen materials for laboratory
• Develop anatomical models for 3D printing purposes
• Coordinate radiological and surgical demonstrations for medical and dental students
• Supervise students in medical education and anatomical sciences research
• The candidate will be expected to serve in university and faculty wide committees related to admissions and curricular design.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
• PhD degree in Anatomy (or related/equivalent field)
• Experience with cadaveric laboratory teaching and cadaveric dissection is essential
• Demonstrated managerial and organizational skills, proven ability to work in a team
• Excellent French communication skills (verbal and written)
• Experience with course development
• Teaching experience in other fields of anatomy such as embryology and histology
• Active participation or engagement in independent and collaborative research activities, particularly related to the fields of health professions education, clinical anatomy and/or anatomical sciences
• English communication skills (verbal)
