Assistant Professor, Tenure Track, Indigenous Knowledge and Pedagogy in Education

The Faculty of Education is seeking to fill a tenure track position in Indigenous knowledge and pedagogy in Education at the Assistant Professor level, commencing July 1, 2019. As a part of MSVU’s Diversity Hiring Program, this position is restricted to applicants who are Indigenous.

Applicants should hold a doctorate or be close to the completion of this degree. The successful candidate will be from the L’Nu or other First Nations, Inuit, or Metis, and have research expertise and experience working in partnership with aboriginal communities to integrate Indigenous knowledge, culture, and pedagogy into the public-school curriculum. The successful candidate will work with both the Bachelor of Education and Graduate Education program committees to implement the goals of the TRC Calls to Action #62 i) to develop “age-appropriate curriculum on residential schools, Treaties, and Aboriginal peoples’ historical and contemporary contributions to Canada.” Experience with Treaty Education curriculum development and implementation is required, as well as teaching and research capacities in one or more of the following areas: Indigenous teacher education, contemporary Indigenous issues, Indigenous language revitalization, Indigenous knowledges, or Indigenous art and cultural expression. Knowledge about other agreements with Indigenous peoples is considered an asset.
