Assistant Teaching Professor in Engineering Design
University of NB Fredericton

The University of New Brunswick’s Department of Civil Engineering, in the Faculty of Engineering, invites applications for a tenured-track position in Engineering Design at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. This position has an anticipated start date of September 1, 2022, or soon thereafter as may be negotiated with the successful applicant. Review of applications will commence by July 15 and will continue until the position is filled.

This is an opportunity for an individual to join a civil engineering department in a period of growth while placing increased emphasis on the profession’s impacts on society through collaborative research and education offerings, and to contribute to developing the capabilities of our undergraduate students in engineering design.

The successful applicant will teach undergraduate core courses in the areas of civil engineering design, supervise students in research and design projects, and provide coordination and support for the stream of engineering design courses in the civil engineering undergraduate program. The civil engineering design course curriculum also integrates many common tools and technologies that are essential to all subdisciplines (e.g., computer assisted design, geographical information systems, discrete event simulation), while emphasizing professional engineering design practices. The position will also contribute to the development of scholarly knowledge in civil engineering design and related areas.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD (or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience) in Civil Engineering or a closely related field with evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in teaching and a commitment to an inclusive learning and working environment. Practical experience in civil engineering design is expected. Applicants must be eligible and willing to register as a Professional Engineer in the Province of New Brunswick.

The University of New Brunswick has been nurturing discovery and innovation for over 200 years. The Department of Civil Engineering, located on the Fredericton campus, offers 4-year bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and geological engineering, and research-based graduate degrees programs (MEng, MScE, PhD) in all major subdisciplines of Civil Engineering. The combined undergraduate and graduate student enrolment is typically 350 to 400. The Department of Civil Engineering has faculty members with research expertise in construction engineering and management, geotechnical, materials, structural, transportation, and water and environmental. The Department of Civil Engineering has many well-established working partnerships with public and private organizations regionally, nationally, and internationally.
