The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary invites applications for an Associate Dean, Curriculum Development & Program Evaluation.
The Associate Dean, Curriculum Development & Program Evaluation (0.8 FTE) is an academic administrative appointment reporting directly to the Dean, and works in a collaborative environment with other members of the Dean’s Administrative Team. The position is a term appointment, with duration to be specified by the Dean. The successful candidate will have the academic qualifications commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position requires a consistent presence on campus throughout the year, and regular access during normal business hours.
The position is primarily responsible for supporting curricular development and innovation, and establishing and maintaining a robust program evaluation plan that spans both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Key to the role is the establishment of an effective team environment for collaborative curriculum development and program evaluation activities. The position is supported by a Senior Administrative Assistant who reports to the Manager of Operations, Admin Services and Facilities and has day-to-day accountabilities to this role. The Associate Dean Curriculum Development and Program Evaluation oversees two academic roles in the portfolio that report directly to this position; the Assistant Dean of Faculty Development and the Undergraduate Curriculum Coordinator.
Purpose of the Position:
The Associate Dean of Curriculum Development and Program Evaluation is responsible for oversight of graduate and undergraduate curricula including necessary development and/or renewal; processes for curricular maintenance; formative and summative program evaluation and ongoing quality assurance processes.
In addition, the Associate Dean will:
• Develops an annual work-plan for curriculum development and program evaluation activities that aligns with the strategic priorities of the Faculty and the University
• Leads curriculum development and renewal for the undergraduate and graduate programs in the faculty of nursing including facilitation of necessary internal and external program change approvals
• Integrates current evidence and best practices into curriculum design, quality assurance and program evaluation processes
• Develops and maintains program logic models (including program and curriculum mapping) for undergraduate and graduate programs in the Faculty of Nursing
• Oversees quality assurance and reporting requirements for the University of Calgary, Nursing Education Program Approval Committee (NEPAC) of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA), the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) and the Government of Alberta Ministry of Advanced Education
• Articulates and maintains an overarching program evaluation framework for the undergraduate and graduate programs at the Faculty of Nursing
• Working with the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs and Associate Dean, Graduate Programs, ensures effective implementation of course and teaching evaluations for all courses
• Working with the Assistant Dean, Faculty Development, utilizes course and teaching evaluation data to inform professional development offerings to continually improve the quality of teaching & learning in the Faculty
• Leads and coordinates key evaluation activities that respond to ongoing program improvement and effective program implementation, including but not limited to achievements of program outcomes in collaboration with the Dean, Association Dean, Undergraduate Program, Associate Dean, Undergraduate Practice Education, and the Associate Dean, Graduate Programs.
• PhD in nursing or related discipline
• Appointed or eligible for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank
• Demonstrated leadership abilities in complex organizational environments and with large scale change projects
• Expertise in curriculum development and implementation
• In-depth knowledge of program approval processes in the post-secondary and professional program contexts
• Knowledge of contemporary issues in the practice and scholarship of teaching and learning
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
• Experience with use of online curriculum mapping/program evaluation applications and other teaching and learning technologies
• Knowledge of Developmental Evaluation processes and practices is an asset
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
• Excellent project management and prioritization skills
• Registered with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA)
