Dean, Faculty of Education

University of British Columbia

UBC’s vision is to create an exceptional learning environment that fosters global citizenship, advances a civil and sustainable society, and supports outstanding research to serve the people of British Columbia, Canada, and the world. With campuses in Vancouver and the Okanagan, UBC has close to 65,000 students and offers both intellectual riches and an unrivalled quality of life.
UBC’s Faculty of Education is recognized as one of the top 20 such Faculties in the world, and top 7 in North America. The Faculty creates conditions for transformative teaching, innovative learning, and leading-edge research guided by the highest standards of scholarship and the principles of collaboration, inclusion and equity. As the largest Faculty of Education in British Columbia, it plays a critical and influential role in the advancement of education in the province, shaping and participating in education’s possibilities and potential as a social good.

The Faculty is unique in both its academic breadth and geographic scope. The Faculty offers Bachelor of Education programs on both of UBC’s campuses (Okanagan and Vancouver), and is also home to the world leading School of Kinesiology, as well as departments for educational and counselling psychology, teacher education, special education, educational studies, Indigenous education, language and literacy, and curriculum and pedagogy. The Faculty is home to over 4,000 students, including 1,800 graduate students, and 165 faculty members.

The new Dean will bring a successful track record in significant administrative roles in research intensive universities. The Dean will have a strong track record in research and teaching, which they will bring to bear in their role in promoting excellence in both. A strategic leader with the capacity and vision to build on the momentum that the Faculty has achieved in recent years, the new Dean will be collaborative and have exceptional interpersonal skills. The new Dean’s background and credentials will merit an appointment as full professor in the Faculty of Education at UBC.

This is an opportunity to lead a world-class Faculty, with tremendous forward momentum, situated in a city that consistently ranks as one of the most liveable cities in the world.
