Dean Faculty of Professional Studies
This position provides an exciting opportunity for an imaginative and collaborative academic leader to contribute to the development of students, faculty members, staff, and programs in a University and Faculty community known for scholarly and pedagogical excellence, and exemplary community engagement.
The Dean of the Faculty of Professional Studies is responsible for providing informed, judicious, and imaginative academic leadership both within the Faculty and across the larger University. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Dean, along with academic and administrative colleagues, assists the Provost and Vice-President Academic in developing and maintaining institutional policy, programs and practices designed for the enhancement of academic excellence within the Faculty of Professional Studies specifically, and across the University in general. The Dean works actively with faculty, schools, and departments, other deans, the Provost and VP-Academic, the Vice-Provost, and the Advancement Office to develop and extend research capacities and initiatives and to contribute to the continuous enhancement of scholarship, curriculum, pedagogy, and community engagement within the Faculty and the University.
The Dean is further responsible for providing supervision and administration of and support for the academic activities of full-time and part-time faculty in schools and department in the Faculty of Professional Studies which include: the School of Business, the Department of Community Development, the School of Education, the School of Kinesiology and the School of Music. In addition, the Dean is responsible for overseeing academic and professional processes as governed by a collective agreement between the Board of Governors and the Acadia University Faculty Association. The Dean has a major responsibility for developing, supporting, and maintaining an environment conducive to teaching and research excellence and effective learning and personal growth for both students and faculty in the Faculty of Professional Studies.
