Founded in 1959 and located on several campuses, York University is a leading international teaching and research university committed to providing a broad demographic of students with access to a high quality, research-intensive learning environment. York is known for driving excellence with rich experiential learning opportunities in innovative learning environments, unique cross-disciplinary programming, and community-engaged research opportunities. A community of changemakers, York is distinguished by an unparalleled commitment to creating positive change for students and for the communities it serves locally and globally.
York University is a vibrant, diverse community of scholars located in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area and united by a strong sense of purpose and dedication to solving real world problems. It is Canada’s third largest university, with over 55,700 undergraduate and graduate students, 7,000 faculty and staff, more than 325,000 alumni, and a budget in excess of one billion dollars. York has established its reputation worldwide and, as one of Canada’s most multicultural universities, is home to students, faculty, and staff who trace their roots to 178 countries.
Founded in 1966, York’s Schulich School of Business is the largest English-speaking graduate management school in Canada and among the top echelon of business schools in the world in research, teaching, and outreach activities. Schulich demonstrates significant differentiating factors, including its extensive global reach, its broad and innovative offerings, and the diversity and international character of its locations, students, and faculty. Schulich’s full-time MBA program has recently been ranked the best in Canada in Forbes, The Economist, and CNN Expansion, and #21 in The Economist’s 2021 global MBA ranking. The Kellogg-Schulich Executive MBA is ranked #1 by The Economist and QS TopMBA among all Canadian EMBA programs.
Schulich has built a strong reputation, both at home and abroad, for global, forward looking programs at the undergraduate, graduate and executive development levels. Education is offered at two Toronto campuses, which have been directly connected by subway since January 2018 – its state-of-the art facilities on York University’s Keele campus and its downtown Miles S. Nadal Management Centre, located in the heart of the city’s financial district. The School also offers the Schulich MBA in India at its Hyderabad Campus and executive education programs in Beijing, China in facilities provided by Beihang University. The School’s operations are supported by Schulich’s International Representative Offices in Beijing and Shanghai, China; Mumbai, India; Seoul, South Korea; Mexico City, Mexico; and São Paulo, Brazil.
The School’s mission is to generate and disseminate new knowledge on management and leadership; to prepare individuals to provide leadership for a changing world; and to achieve excellence nationally and internationally in all school endeavours. In support of this, Schulich aims to provide its students with a balanced perspective on theory and practice, as well as analytical and qualitative skills, and specialized and integrative approaches to management. Schulich’s mission also requires a commitment to meet the challenge of preparing business leaders for the environmental, social and ethical complexities of modern-day business through cutting-edge research in areas related to responsible business. These values, together with a powerful commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism, extend into all facets of the School’s activities, programs and curriculum, research, executive education, and community outreach. It has been and continues to be the aim of the School to attract the highest calibre of students, faculty and staff, and to continually differentiate itself through its ethical commitments and innovative approaches to management education and research while extending its global reach.
The Schulich Schools seeks its next Dean. Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the Dean of the Schulich School of Business is the School’s Chief Academic and Administrative Officer, leading its teaching, research and service missions, as well as directing the School’s budget, general administration and future development. As the face of Schulich, the Dean must be committed to the School’s innovative and diverse approach to business education and research, and how it applies to enterprise, global outreach, alumni engagement and the recruitment of excellent students, faculty and staff. They will be expected to act with integrity and dedication to the inclusive, democratic, collegial processes of the School, and as a champion for the School’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism in all facets of executing its mission. The Dean holds ultimate responsibility of the School in relation to all academic matters, including the recruitment and support of outstanding undergraduate and graduate students and the development and offering of dynamic and future-oriented programs to prepare the next generation of researchers and engaged citizens. In addition, the Dean is a member of the senior leadership team of the wider university and helps foster an environment conducive to excellence and innovation in research and teaching.
