The Department of Criminology at Saint Mary’s University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin on July 1, 2024. The Department seeks candidates who demonstrate skills in quantitative approaches to the study of criminology, the sociology of crime/deviance, or closely related topics (e.g., victims/offenders, human rights, legal studies, surveillance, governability, abolitionism). The successful candidate will be able to teach our core course in Quantitative Research Methods. The successful candidate should have an active research agenda in the broad area of criminology, sociology of crime/deviance, or closely related fields.
Preference will be given to scholars engaged in research with and for racialized communities or conducting criminological inquiry through an Indigenous or critical race lens.
Job Information and Responsibilities
Applicants should hold a completed or nearly completed Ph.D. in Criminology or a related field. Candidates should be able to demonstrate strength in teaching and research in quantitative approaches. Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to upholding the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and research activities. Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to academic service and community engagement. Teaching loads, employee benefits, and salaries are governed by the Saint Mary’s University Collective Agreement

Applicants should submit an application package consisting of the following six items only, merged into one PDF: 1) a letter of application addressing the criteria laid out above; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) one example of recent scholarly writing; 4) unofficial graduate school transcripts; 5) the names and contact information for three referees; and 6) a copy of a syllabus of a course you have developed and taught (or a draft syllabus if you have not previously taught a course).
