The University of Western Ontario (Western University) is an internationally renowned research-intensive university that is ranked among the top-ten in Canada and prides itself in the “student experience” of its educational programs. Included in these programs are medical (MD) and dental (DDS) students within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (the School), which accounts for the only other dental school in Ontario that is outside of Toronto. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry has a long tradition of excellence, beginning with the founding of the medical school in 1881 and continuing with the formation of the dental school in 1964. It is one of Canada’s preeminent medical and dental schools and is known for being the birthplace of family medicine in Canada. For more than 130 years, the School has demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and a passion for scientific discovery. Accordingly, the dental school draws on a highly qualified and talented pool of applicants that train in very rigorous and demanding professional programs. The didactic content is enriched by the medical sciences, and the clinical experience supported by local general and specialist practitioners and a large patient pool from across Southwestern Ontario. At Schulich Dentistry, we prepare graduates to provide outstanding dental care as well as generate knowledge through cutting-edge basic and clinical research. We also provide oral health care to the public through our on-site clinics and our community outreach programs, and have recently significantly upgraded our Simulation Clinic which provides a venue for practical training in undergraduate operative, fixed and removable prosthodontic, endodontic, and oral surgical technique.
