Engineering Design in John M. Thompson Centre for Engineering Leadership and Innovation

Applications are invited for an exceptional candidate in the area of Engineering Design in the John M. Thompson Centre for Engineering Leadership and Innovation. Faculty of Engineering, effective July 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful applicant will receive a three (3) – year Limited Term appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor. The rank and salary will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.

We seek an energetic and dynamic candidate who will be able to contribute to the Faculty’s teaching activities in the broad area of introductory engineering design. The successful candidate will serve as the course coordinator and a lecturer/facilitator for the first-year engineering course, “ES 1050: Foundations of Engineering Practice.” Western Engineering first-year students take a common curriculum before entering their specializations in second year. This course provides the foundation for their Engineering careers by introducing the Engineering Design Process while also introducing different Engineering disciplines and the practice of Engineering as a profession. This position is an opportunity for an experienced professional to make a difference on the careers of the next generation of engineers.

Successful candidates will have completed a first degree in Engineering (BASc. B.Eng or equivalent) and a PhD degree in an Engineering field and/or have practiced engineering design extensively. The candidate should provide evidence of teaching at the university level in engineering design. Eligibility for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario, or other Canadian province, is required for this appointment. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the normal administrative, educational and professional activities of the Centre, Faculty and University.

The Centre is responsible for the Certificate in Engineering Leadership and Innovation, undergraduate program in Integrated Engineering, Masters of Engineering in ADMI (in cooperation with Queen’s University) and non-technical courses in the Faculty of Engineering.
