Head, Department of Landscape Architecture

Applications are invited for the position of Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba. The Department of Landscape Architecture offers an accredited Masters in Landscape Architecture (MLA) degree, introduced in 1972 as the first graduate program in landscape architecture in Canada, and collaborates with all the academic units in the Faculty of Architecture to offer a Ph.D. in Design and Planning, and an interdisciplinary four-year Bachelor of Environ¬mental Design degree that includes a two-year Landscape+Urbanism Option for which the Department is primarily responsible. More than five hundred students are registered in Faculty of Architecture programs; about sixty students are in the MLA program, and about sixty more are in the Landscape+Urbanism Option. Department alumni occupy prominent positions within the Landscape Architecture profession across Canada and globally. Appointment as the Department Head is intended to be for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter, and may be renewed. This position includes a faculty role as well; rank will be dependent on qualifications and experience. Applicants should have a background commensurate with a tenured appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank in a Department of Landscape Architecture with demon¬strated evidence of high-quality teaching, research/scholarly work, and professionalism. The ability to provide academic leadership and sound administration is paramount, as is championing the Department to the academic and professional communities, and potential students. Applicants should be members, or eligible for membership, with the Manitoba Association of Landscape Architects.
