Indigenous Nursing Research Chair (CIHR)
The Faculty of Nursing at the University of New Brunswick invites applications for a five (5) year Research Chair in Indigenous Nursing Research. This will be a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate level. The position will commence October 1, 2019. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Applicants are expected to have a PhD but a minimum of Masters in Nursing will be considered. Candidates with a MN and a PhD in progress would be considered an asset. Applicants will have expertise in Indigenous health nursing and be linked to a research network or are part of a community of practice for Indigenous health research. Individuals should have an innovative and original research program with high potential to attract external funding. A demonstrated ability to teach effectively is also expected. Connections with NB’s Indigenous communities are definite assets for this Research Chair. Applicants will be able to provide evidence of their knowledge and experience of connecting researchers within community and the value added to research by integrating Indigenous culturally relevant theoretical frameworks and Indigenous methods for knowledge discovery and translation.
Objects of this Research Chair are 1.) support research and development of knowledge and best and wise practices in the area of Indigenous health nursing, 2.) investigate structural factors, including gender, that support and impede Indigenous health nursing and Indigenous health, 3.) explore, describe and/or explain Indigenous research paradigms and their theoretical and methodological implications for Indigenous health nursing standards, 4.) advance the understanding and conceptualization of Indigenous health nursing and its role in the nursing profession, 5.) examine the recruitment and retention of people into the nursing discipline (i.e., practice, education, research and administration) and nurses into the specialty of Indigenous health nursing, 6.) Create opportunities and the will for nurses and trainees to engage in Indigenous health nursing leadership, 7.) Provide mentorship and training for students
