Instructor, Laboratory Instructor/Workshop Supervisor
Position # 20406 – The Ivan Curry School of Engineering invites applications for a 5-month contractually-limited term (CLT) position as Laboratory Instructor/Workshop Supervisor ideally commencing August 15, 2021. The successful applicant will be responsible for setting up, tearing down and maintaining laboratory equipment, demonstrating and supervising proper techniques for use of same, and preparing materials to assist Engineering students in carrying out the lab portions of their program which includes Electric Circuits, Digital Systems, Thermodynamics, and Design 1 project assistance. They would also be expected to grade submitted lab work and informally collaborate with students from time to time in the construction of design projects in the small interdepartmental workshop attached to the engineering building. Finally, the candidate (in collaboration with faculty) would be welcome to contribute to coordinating the student design club initiatives and the development of new lab/workshop exercises or procedures through research, testing and the purchase of (or design/fabrication of) specialized equipment.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the position would genuinely enjoy working one-on-one with students and have some combination of formal technical training, general mechanical/electrical aptitude and past experience with the engineering design process. In addition, familiarity with CAD software, 3-D printing technology, the design and testing of electric/digital circuits and general workshop procedures and safety would be an asset. A master’s degree is the normal minimum qualification for this position, but candidates with significant professional experience in the areas of expertise outlined above will also be considered in lieu of the formal degree. Registration as a professional engineer in a Canadian jurisdiction is preferred.
