About the Position:

The Instructor position in Sprott School of Business is a confirmation-track position holding the rank of either Instructor I, Instructor II, or Instructor III. The incumbent will deliver undergraduate and graduate courses to a diverse student body, contribute to the actively ongoing development of project-based experiential learning opportunities and support the development of linkages between the School and the employer community. The incumbent will also participate in the ongoing development of our academic programs in a highly collegial environment.

About the Academic Unit and PBSL Program:

The Sprott School of Business is committed to excellence in teaching and research and is accredited by AACSB. The School offers the following degrees Bachelor of Commerce with Honours, a Bachelor of International Business with Honours, a Master of Business Administration including off-campus programs in China, a Master of Accounting, a Master of Entrepreneurship, a Master of Science in Management and a Ph.D. in Management. The PBSL program aims to get students out of the classroom and working with partner organizations. Through this initiative, students work in interdisciplinary teams to solve real problems to acquire practical experience, expand their networks, and enhance their management/leadership skills.

With a focus on social enterprise and local companies, students strengthen their resumes while learning how to operate in a business environment and deliver consultant quality research. Businesses benefit from the program by gaining access to top students and receiving high value research free of charge. The program adds to the student’s education through meaningful experiences in helping the Carleton community and beyond.

The program will officially launch this Fall as the Sprott Student Consulting Group. Our consulting group has grown steadily and we currently have over 20 projects managed by over one hundred students.  Current projects include a variety of clients ranging from startup financial services, local manufacturers, non-profit organizations, and socially minded businesses such as Lee Valley, the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra and Connected Canadians.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess, at minimum, a Master’s degree in business or related area, and demonstrate a strong record of teaching effectiveness. Candidates must possess at least five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in business or an equivalent field or in a related academic environment.  Evidence of strong leadership skills considered an asset. Candidates will be expected to continuously develop professionally for maintaining qualifications consistent with requirements of AACSB accreditation.  This would include, but not be limited to consulting, executive education, and writing articles (e.g. professional, pedagogical, textbooks or research).
