About the opportunity
The College of Pharmacy in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health invites applications from qualified candidates for a career stream position (60%) in the College of Pharmacy Skills Lab at the rank of Instructor or Senior Instructor, depending on qualifications.

The Skills Laboratory component of the undergraduate curriculum consists of Skills Lab courses in each year of the curriculum. The courses use evidence-based pedagogical approaches, focusing on practical skill development and application of knowledge acquired in the problem-based learning and critical appraisal series components of the curriculum. Students learn to identify drug therapy problems and develop therapeutic management and monitoring plans. Professional skills required for successful completion of the practice experience program are introduced and practiced. Content includes, but is not limited to: pharmaceutical care, including application of clinical therapeutics and pharmaceutics applied through patient care scenarios, medication history taking, written and verbal communication skills, patient education, device training, injection training, extemporaneous compounding, prescription evaluation and processing and pharmacist prescribing. Simulation is integrated throughout all years. Skills Lab courses are integrated and linked and require extensive collaboration amongst the Skills Lab faculty.

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring students fulfill specific learning outcomes. This is achieved by: developing, updating and delivering lectures, lab and workshop material (presentations, cases, assignments), arranging guest lecturers with relevant expertise, recruiting, training and supervising lab demonstrators, and assessing student progress with provision of both written and oral feedback

The successful applicant will work closely with other Skills Lab instructors to ensure seamless development of curriculum between years. They will work with faculty from all aspects of the curriculum, including therapeutics and pharmaceutical sciences (integrated problem-based learning), critical appraisal series, social, behavioural and administrative pharmacy, and the practice experience program, to ensure appropriate integration of concepts through the Skills Lab curriculum. The successful applicant may also partner with faculty and staff in other health related programs. This position includes participation in College, Faculty and University committees.

Applicants must possess an entry-to-practice pharmacy degree and be eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of exemplary pharmacy practice experience. Experience teaching in a Skills Lab environment is required. This includes direct instruction, facilitation, course coordination and development, and assessment of students. Best qualified applicants will have experience using Learning Management Systems. The successful candidate must be available to teach both online and in person.
