Limited Term Appointment, Assistant Professor, Biology and Chemistry

Nipissing University

The Department of Biology and Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Nipissing University invites applications from qualified candidates for a ten-month, Limited-Term Appointment (LTA 1) position at the Assistant Professor level commencing July 1, 2022, subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will have primary expertise in molecular and cell biology and will be expected to teach undergraduate courses at foundational and senior levels of biology. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in areas of biology relevant to human or animal health. The ability to teach courses in the physiology of human or vertebrate animal systems would also be considered an asset. The successful candidate will hold a completed doctoral degree in Biology (or closely related field appropriate to the area of specialization), demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching and research at the university level, and have the potential to develop a record of research in their area of expertise. The position includes instruction of three courses in the fall term and three courses in the winter term.

The Department of Biology and Chemistry at Nipissing University is a dynamic academic unit committed to excellence in teaching and research. We offer comprehensive undergraduate (B.Sc.) programs in Biology and Environmental Biology and Technology and Minors/Certificates in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Forest Resources, and Neuroscience. We strongly emphasize high-impact student experiences in lectures, laboratories, and individualized study courses (e.g. thesis). The Biology and Chemistry faculty also contribute to the interdisciplinary graduate programs in Environmental Science (MESc.) and Studies (MES). Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment will be effective July 1, 2022.

Nipissing University is in the City of North Bay, Ontario (population 55,000), between Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake and surrounded by pristine Canadian Shield Forest. A comfortable three-hour drive from Toronto and three and a half hours from Ottawa, this growing city has a vibrant arts community, ample amenities, and countless opportunities for outdoor activities.
