Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Mechatronics Engineering (MIME) in the Faculty of Engineering & Architectural Science at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) invites applications for a one-year Limited Term Faculty (LTF) position in Industrial Engineering, effective August 1, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval.

The position has only teaching and service obligations of faculty members in the Department. The candidate will contribute to our undergraduate and graduate programs through teaching, mentoring and supervision of students to facilitate junior scholars and diversify the field. The teaching responsibilities include a range of undergraduate (code: IND) and graduate (code: ME) Industrial Engineering courses as listed in the Toronto Metropolitan University calendar at:

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and must present evidence of the following:

demonstrated capacity for teaching excellence at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum as evidenced by a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy statement, experience with courses and curriculum review and/or development, examples of best practices in pedagogy, including effective use of classroom technology and any experience with experiential learning, sample syllabi, strong teaching evaluations, teaching awards, and other relevant achievements in teaching;
commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) as it pertains to service and teaching, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population;
ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Department, Faculty, and the University through collegial service; and
registration as a professional engineer (P.Eng. or Ing) in a Canadian province is required.



Note: Limited Term Faculty appointments at Toronto Metropolitan University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Toronto Metropolitan LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply.

Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Mechatronics Engineering
The Department has 38 faculty members and offers five-year co-op or four-year accredited programs leading to Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering, and launched a five-year co-op or four-year program leading to Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Mechatronics Engineering in 2023. The Department also offers graduate programs leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, Master of Applied Science (MASc) degree, and Master of Engineering (MEng) degree and is home to about 1300 undergraduate and 120 graduate students.

curriculum vitae;
teaching statement (maximum 3 pages);
supervisor/peer teaching evaluations, if any;
diversity statement (maximum 1 page), i.e. evidence of commitment to EDI that demonstrates an understanding of EDI principles and evidence of application of those EDI principles (e.g., the applicant’s past EDI roles, initiatives, accomplishments, and barriers experienced),, or clearly defined plans of how EDI principles will be applied in service and teaching; and
names of three individuals who may be contacted for references.
