About the Position
Brock University’s Department of Visual Arts invites applications at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in Visual Arts (Painting, Drawing and Extended Practice), with a preferred start date of August 1, 2021. Applicants should have an MFA or equivalent.
We seek an established artist whose practice demonstrates an innovative and integrated approach that extends the discourse of painting and drawing into an expansive field of inquiry. The candidate will have an active and established creative research practice including a substantial record of national and international exhibitions or other modes of public artistic engagement; an expanded definition of studio art as a discipline; the potential to secure funding.
Teaching qualifications include: an exemplary teaching record that illustrates dynamic, broad thinking, and innovative methods and approaches that push the traditional boundaries of those media; an ability to incorporate art history, visual culture, and contemporary theory into teaching. Experience in related areas such as curatorial work, criticism, and other forms of community engagement is an asset. In addition to maintaining a strong research program or creative practice, the successful candidate, will teach a range of undergraduate drawing and painting courses that will support an accessible experience for all students and departmental activities with a commitment to Indigenous engagement, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
We value experiential learning, research initiatives inside and outside the department, and sustained program growth. Candidates will have experience in administrative or committee work that will aid in the coordination of student and departmental activities, recruitment and curriculum development.
