Brescia University College
Located in London, Ontario, on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenausaune, Lenaapeewak, and Attawandaron peoples, Brescia is Canada's only women’s university, educating women for over a century. Brescia was founded in 1919 by the Ursuline Sisters, strong women of faith committed to social justice, cultivation of community, development of women and environmental sustainability. As a Catholic University, Brescia accepts and embraces students of all faiths and backgrounds.
Brescia’s student-centred approach commits to educating women by preparing its students for life-long leadership. Brescia has a student population of approximately 1600 students, with an average class size of 29 students and an emphasis on academic excellence. Brescia offers undergraduate, as well as co-education masters-level programs, pre-qualifying first year program and a number of specialized diplomas and certificates.
As Principal, you will build on the university’s long tradition of academic and research excellence in women’s education, student success, specialized disciplinary knowledge, experiential and competency-based learning, and community engagement. Your role has many dimensions, all requiring sound judgment and visionary leadership. You personify and promote the values that define Brescia; lead, empower and support an exceptional team of academic and administrative leaders; develop and deliver on the university’s strategic goals; engage and foster meaningful relations with Brescia’s students, faculty and staff and our many external partners; ensure the university secures and effectively manages the resources its faculty and staff need to deliver on its mission; and most importantly, inspire Brescia’s students, faculty, staff, the community, government, industry partners, alumni and friends, and donors around a compelling, shared vision that stretches from its campus in London to the world.
The Principal will work co–operatively with the Board of Trustees, Brescia Council, and all members of the University community to advance its vision, mission and values, and ensure its ongoing sustainability. You will be responsible for growing the connection between Brescia and Western University, its Senate and its other Affiliated Colleges, as well as the university community in Ontario and beyond. The Principal will be an advocate for developing research support for faculty members at the University and will play a key role in planning and executing the strategy for academic planning to meet the needs of Brescia students.
As the ideal candidate for the Principal role, you are passionate about the powerful impact of women’s education and are a respected and valued academic administrator. You are deeply committed to collegiality, collaboration, transparency and service to community, in the broadest sense. Authentic, approachable, and an effective communicator, you will engage with students, faculty, staff, colleagues, partners, and the Board of Trustees in a genuine and respectful way. You are a strategic, resilient and courageous decision maker with the business acumen to position Brescia for continued success. Your humility, empathy and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenization will be welcomed at Brescia, and Brescia will benefit from your relationship building and human-focused change management skills, as well as your commitment to collegial governance. As the successful candidate, you will hold a PhD, along with an outstanding record of achievements in teaching, research/scholarly activity, academic administration and student engagement.
Brescia invites applications from all qualified individuals. Brescia is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace and welcomes applications from women, members of racialized groups/visible minorities, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation, and persons of any gender identity or gender expression. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.
