The School of Public Administration at the University of Victoria invites candidates to apply for an Impact Chair position in Transformative Governance for Planetary Health.

UVic Impact Chairs are intended for exceptional researchers acknowledged as leaders in their field, with recognized success in research-inspired teaching and fostering collaborative and interdisciplinary research. The role of the Impact Chair is to convene, connect and facilitate collaborative research and education across disciplines and academic units, knowledge sharing and mobilization, partnerships on campus and with external partners and communities, and to provide leadership in relation to the relevant University of Victoria Strategic Framework priorities.

The goal of the Chair in Transformative Governance for Planetary Health is to contribute to shifting our societies to better reconcile human health with the natural systems on which we depend, by bridging the academia, communities and governments.

The Impact Chair on Transformative Governance for Planetary Health and its Transformation Lab are designed for being a creative space for knowledge creation, education and engagement that would be a leverage for existing expertise and resources. This unique setting will provide the University of Victoria, which is situated on Lekwungen, Wyomilth and WSÁNEĆ territory, with an international recognition and visibility with regards to its expertise in Sustainable Futures and have positive impacts at multiple levels. It will support knowledge development in an area that is critically needed, transformative governance, capitalizing on interdisciplinary collaborations across campus and beyond campus by reaching out to governments and communities, including Indigenous communities. It will also increase knowledge opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
The Chair holder will be expected to conduct original and innovative research, lead engagement activities, implement and lead the Transformation Lab for Planetary Health, and teach courses and supervise graduate students. The Chair holder is expected to work in close collaboration with the Centre for Indigenous Research and Community-Led Engagement- CIRCLE (https://www.uvic.ca/research/centres/circle/).
The successful candidate will hold a faculty appointment of associate professor with tenure, or professor with tenure at the School of Public Administration. The anticipated start date for this position is January 1st, 2021 or later. The term of the Impact Chair is five years (non-renewable). Upon completion of the five-year term, the successful candidate will hold a regular position at the School of Public Administration.

Requirements
Candidates must have a Ph.D. and hold an academic position at the rank of associate professor or professor.

We seek candidates with pertinent expertise in public administration or a related field such as Indigenous studies, environmental studies, geography, sociology, political science, economics, education or health.

They must have an established research program in an area pertinent to transformative governance for planetary health, and demonstrate excellence in research. A research program that reflects interdisciplinary collaborations, community-engaged research and experience in knowledge mobilization will be considered an asset. The ideal candidate will demonstrate qualities for or experience working with Indigenous Peoples. We encourage scholars with established relationships and experience working with Indigenous nations and communities to apply.

Candidates must have teaching experience and demonstrate interest in engaging teaching practices. Candidates must have high experience in supervising graduate students with multidisciplinary and diverse backgrounds.

As convening and facilitating collaborative research, dialogue and sharing of knowledge is critically important to the Impact Chair program, the candidates must demonstrate that they have collaborative skills to foster collaboration between units but also between the academia and external organizations and that they are excellent communicators.
