Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Sport Psychology

The School of Kinesiology, in the Faculty of Education at The University of British Columbia (UBC), invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Sport Psychology. The appointment is expected to begin on January 1, 2023 or as negotiated with the successful candidate.
The successful candidate must hold a PhD at the time of application in psychology, neuroscience, kinesiology, or a closely related discipline, with expertise in sport psychology, and demonstrate excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship. Post-doctoral training would be an asset. The ideal candidate would be well positioned to develop a strong program of research and outreach activities that are broadly concerned with the psychology of high-performance sport and/or the application of psychological principles to sport behaviour involving a range of populations. This may suit someone with a background in the psychology of performance enhancement, developmental psychology, neuroscience, and/or clinical sport psychology.
The successful candidate must have a record of research dissemination in terms of peer-reviewed articles in recognized academic journals in the field and evidence of presentations at national and international scholarly conferences. Demonstrated ability to participate in scholarly activity, to establish an original program of research supported by external competitive research funding (e.g., tri-agency and partnership grants) is required. This individual will have demonstrated ability to develop and effectively teach courses at introductory and advanced in the areas of sport psychology and sport behaviour to be offered to undergraduate and graduate students.
In addition, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the growth of the School through supervision of graduate students, participation in service activities within the School, Faculty, University and in the broader scholarly community. They are encouraged to collaborate across the diverse research areas in the School and, more broadly, the University. This position will complement the School of Kinesiology’s strategic plans for interdisciplinary research excellence within the School and across faculties at UBC and play a role in generating and disseminating knowledge on the psychology of sport in diverse populations.

The School of Kinesiology currently has 27 full-time tenure stream faculty members, 1400 full-time undergraduate students, and 190 graduate students. The School offers a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree with specializations in Neuromechanical and Physiological Sciences, Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Multi-disciplinary Science. The graduate program includes M.A., M.Sc., Master of Kinesiology (Clinical Kinesiology and Performance and Coaching Sciences), Master of High Performance Coaching & Technical Leadership, and Ph.D. degrees. This is a tenure-track position in the Professoriate Stream. The successful candidate will be reviewed for reappointment, tenure and promotion in subsequent years, in accordance with the Collective Agreement. Starting salary is determined both by the candidate’s qualifications and experience and by their placement on the career progress scale within the UBC Faculty of Education.
