The Department of Child and Youth Study is currently seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level, commencing 1 July 2022.

The Description The Department of Child and Youth Study offers undergraduate and graduate programs, providing professional and academic education for entry into areas such as early years care, child and youth work, recreational programming, and family resource settings.

This candidate will have specialized expertise in the theories and applications of play-based and physical literacy pedagogical practices, in a range of early childhood settings. The candidate will provide leadership in this area by contributing to current and new course content, including practica requirements; strengthening partnerships with local organizations, including through enhancement of the program’s community-based practicum opportunities; and engaging in research and community-based service endeavours for improving the well-being of children, youth and families.

Applicants should hold a PhD (or be near completion) with research expertise in early childhood learning and development specific to early childhood education. Applicants must provide evidence of research competence, and be prepared to establish an active research program, in an area relevant to the study of early childhood education such as in the application of practice and policy, knowledge, frameworks, pedagogies and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility. Applicants should also have documented successful teaching experience within a university setting and, ideally, experience with direct service delivery in early childhood learning and care. Documented experience in online course development and curriculum development is an asset.

Workload for the position includes teaching and academic advising, scholarly and/or professional activity and internal and external collegial service. Candidates should be prepared to teach a range of courses within the undergraduate and graduate programs, supervise undergraduate and graduate student research, as well as enhance the Department’s links to early childhood learning & child care communities and organizations. The successful candidate will also contribute to the ongoing efforts of the Department of Child and Youth Study Department towards enhancing curriculum in the area of early childhood education.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Agreement with the Mount Saint Vincent University Faculty Association. The position will remain open until filled and is subject to final budgetary approval.
