The School of Social Work in the Faculty of Community Services at Ryerson University in the city of Toronto on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg (Mississaugas of the Credit), Haudenosaunee and Huron invite applications for a tenure track open rank position commencing July 1, 2020, subject to final budgetary approval. The area of specialization is Black studies-focused social work education, research and practice.

The School of Social Work in the Faculty of Community Services (FCS) at Ryerson University invites applications for a tenure track open rank position in Black Studies. The appointment shall be effective July 1, 2020, subject to final budgetary approval.
We strive to be a leader in critical social work education, research, and practice that works against anti-Black racism and anti-Indigenous racism and advances anti-oppression, anti-racism, anti-colonialism/decolonization, feminism, anti-capitalism, queer and trans liberation struggles, issues in disability and madness, among other social justice struggles. With this position, we are seeking candidates who can make a substantive contribution to an area within this critical work that the School is committed to through its mission, vision and values. In particular, we are seeking candidates whose scholarship focuses on Black scholarship and anti-Black racism, anti-colonialism and decolonization.
The School prides itself both on the quality of its teaching and the breadth and excellence of its research. Currently, the school offers a four-year BSW program, advanced standing BSW programs to students with prior education and experience, a BSW program offered in collaboration with First Nations Technical Institute, and a Master of Social Work program. The School is located within the Faculty of Community Services, which offers a range of programs that provide rich opportunities for collaborative and international initiatives in teaching and research.
This position falls under the jurisdiction of the Ryerson Faculty Association (RFA) (www.rfanet.ca).

The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, research and service duties, maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Responsibilities will include: service that contributes to the continuing success of the School of Social Work, the Faculty and the University in the area of Black studies; teaching a variety of social work courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels ensuring incorporation of Indigenous perspectives; contributing to the collegial governance of the school; strong community engagement that builds upon and enhances relationships with social service agencies and communities; and demonstrating and maintaining a strong research agenda.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate degree with a focus on Black studies and/or perspectives, experiences and knowledges in social work practice; at least one of the degrees completed must be in social work or a related discipline at the undergraduate or graduate level. A social work degree is preferred.
In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of:
● a strong emerging or well-established program of research (i.e., peer reviewed publications, conference presentations, research funding and/or investigator roles in research projects);
● high-quality teaching; social work teaching and practice experience;
● a record of collaboration and engagement with Black communities and organizations;
● commitment to working in support of students;
● scholarship and practice with a specific focus on Black scholarship/studies;
● administrative experience, such as experience with periodic program review and/or CASWE accreditation;
● commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
● commitment to a collegial work environment and an ability to contribute to the life of the School, Faculty and the University through collegial service.
