Tenure-Track Position with a Specialization in Digital Humanities

The School of Information Studies of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Arts invites applications for a tenure-track position with a specialization in Digital Humanities (and relevant research and teaching experience in library and information sciences) with a start date of July 1, 2022.

Title of the Position: Assistant professor level, but higher ranks will be considered under exceptional circumstances.

Duties: Responsibilities for the position include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising graduate students, and providing vision and leadership related to the development of teaching, research, and outreach (e.g., advancing digital cultural practices within galleries, libraries, archives and museum as a sector). The successful candidate will be expected to carry out a robust research program, seek external funding, demonstrate a sustained commitment to active participation in the administrative activities of the unit and the Faculty, and participate in the activities of professional organizations.

Terms: Tenure-track position

Wage: Salary scale for an Assistant Professor starts at $86,986 (as of May 1, 2020).

Required Skills:

The successful candidate will be an expert in theoretical and practical applications at the intersection of these subject areas: big data and AI; metadata and knowledge organization; and digital cultural heritage management. They will lead a metadata and digital humanities track within the School’s current graduate programs and will collaborate through research and teaching in support of the Faculty of Arts Digital Humanities undergraduate specialization.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

• a master’s degree in library and information science, and a doctorate in information science or a related field;
• evidence of innovative pedagogical excellence including project-based instruction at a post-secondary institution;evidence of an established and innovative research program, a record of refereed publications, and knowledge mobilization focusing on big data and digital cultural heritage management across a variety of sectors including but not limited to galleries, libraries, archives, and museums;
• an ability to attract external funding;
• demonstrated skills in working collaboratively and with diverse populations;
• At the time of tenure, a minimum of passive knowledge of the other official language is required - English-French bilingualism at time of hire is thus an asset.
