Simon Fraser University (SFU), located on unceded Coast Salish Territory - the traditional territories of the Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw), Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm), and Kwikwetlem First Nations,is actively building a diverse, inclusive community and invites applications for an NSERC Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Computer Security within the School of Computing Science. This CRC appointment opportunity is intended for emerging scholars at the rank of assistant or associate professor (or those who possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed to these levels).
We are seeking a candidate with a prominent international profile in the practical and/or theoretical aspects of computer and communications security and privacy. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, network security, blockchains and cryptocurrencies, forensics, vulnerability analysis, intrusion detection, privacy-preserving protocols, cloud security, and trust management. Candidates are expected to have an excellent research program with a strong publication record. Candidates with practical and interdisciplinary experience will be given a priority. Candidates with a commitment to the advancement of women and other underrepresented groups in computer science will be given priority. SFU requires a Ph.D. in computer science or related area.
This position is contingent upon the applicant receiving a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. The position is subject to the availability of funding and to final approval by the University Board of Governors and the CRC Secretariat. The Canada Research Chair is tenable for five years and may be renewed once. Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidate must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Applicants who are more than 10 years from their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, including maternity leave, extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 CRC assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. The School currently has 57 faculty members, 350 Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, and 2,000 undergraduate majors.
