Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Political Science & Economics

Royal Military College of Canada

The Department of Political Science and Economics at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston, wishes to hire up to three indeterminate faculty members at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (UT-02, UT-03 or UT-04) from all subfields in political science. For economics, preference may be given to an economist who can teach courses in public economics, public choice and political economy. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in Political Science, Political Studies, Government, Public Administration, Public Policy or Economics from a recognized university at the time of hiring. Anticipated start date is January 1, 2025. For the purposes of designated group hiring, candidates with Indigenous lived experience are especially encouraged to apply and will be explicitly solicited through a parallel process.

Intent of the process:

This process will be used to fill immediate vacancies and may be used to staff future vacancies with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, security requirements, and conditions of employment.

Number of positions to be filled: up to 3.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses and supervise at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Successful applicants should be able to demonstrate an ability, or demonstrate the potential to develop the ability, to contribute to the RMC Core Curriculum and the Political Science and/or Economics undergraduate programme. Ability to teach in the MPA and/or War Studies graduate programs is considered an asset.

Applicants must provide evidence of a strong teaching portfolio and a commitment to excellence in pedagogy. RMC is a bilingual national institution.

The successful candidates will demonstrate an active independent research program. A commitment to research will be demonstrated by a robust peer-reviewed publication record measured by both quantity and/or rate of publication as well as success in attracting competitive extramural research funding.

In addition, the successful candidate will be required to contribute through service to the department, the Faculty, the University, and the broader community. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a university environment is essential.
