The Finance area in the School of Administrative Studies at the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University invites highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor position in Personal Financial Planning. This is an Assistant Professor tenure-track appointment to the Professorial Stream to commence 1st July 2027.
The School of Administrative Studies https://www.yorku.ca/laps/sas/ is one of Canada's largest interdisciplinary management schools and teaches York University's Bachelor of Commerce program through offerings in finance, accounting, marketing, business technology management, management, and related fields. The Finance area https://www.yorku.ca/laps/sas/bcom/degree-options/finance/ at the School of Administrative Studies is home to a diverse group of scholars engaged in research and teaching in investments, corporate finance, and financial planning. The successful candidate will join the Finance area as a specialist in personal financial planning and will be expected to develop and maintain an active program of research in the field while contributing to undergraduate teaching in financial planning and related areas.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Degree: PhD or PhD near completion in Finance or related field by the appointment’s start.
- Scholarship:
- A coherent and well-articulated agenda of research and specialization in financial planning, household finance, financial well-being, retirement planning, financial literacy, behavioural finance, wealth management, estate planning, risk management and insurance, or related areas.
- A record or evident promise of generating innovative, substantive, rigorous, and as appropriate, externally funded research.
- A record or evident promise of making influential contributions and demonstrating excellence in the field (e.g. peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, working papers).
- Teaching:
- A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students (e.g. teaching experience, teaching evaluations, curriculum development, pedagogical innovation, or other evidence of effective instruction).
- Demonstrated ability or potential to teach undergraduate courses in financial planning and related areas, including personal financial planning, retirement planning, estate planning, behavioural finance, client communication, ethics in financial planning and personal risk management.
- Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies given this position may involve graduate teaching and supervision.
- Additional:
- Professional designations relevant to financial planning (e.g., CFP®, QAFP™, CPA, CFA, CLU, or equivalent) are an asset.
- Experience engaging with the financial planning profession, regulatory bodies, professional associations, policymakers, or industry stakeholders is an asset.
Hiring Policies:
- The anticipated starting salary for this position at the rank of Assistant Professor is in the range of $159,000 to $189,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. York University offers generous benefits and salary provisions.
