Department of English: Continuing Appointment, Instructor III

The Department of English at the University of Winnipeg invites applications for a continuing appointment at the rank of Instructor III beginning July 1, 2027. The position will be subject to budgetary approval. 

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, including experience with inclusive teaching practices and undergraduate instruction at multiple levels. Applicants must hold, or be near completion of, a PhD in English or a closely related field by the appointment start date. Candidates holding another relevant postgraduate degree may also be considered.

Instructors’ responsibilities shall encompass teaching and service to the University of Winnipeg without the expectation to conduct research or scholarship other than that directly related to their teaching duties. The normal teaching assignment per year is four full (6 credit) courses, or the equivalent. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in Shakespeare and Sixteenth-Century literature and culture as well as courses at the first-year level and as required by departmental needs.

  • Teaching dossier including a teaching statement and philosophy; examples of teaching effectiveness and achievements (2 page maximum); a summary and example of evaluation methods (2 page maximum); condensed syllabi for two courses: one first-year introductory English course and one Shakespeare or Sixteenth-Century survey course; and an EDI statement (1 page maximum)
