Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Beef Cattle Research and Extension in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences (https://wcvm.usask.ca/departments/large-clinical.php) at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM).

This position includes a 50% commitment to research and scholarly activity; 25% to teaching; 20% to extension; and 5% to administration. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program focused on beef cattle health, production, and disease investigation. Research outcomes should contribute to the scientific literature through publication in peer-reviewed journals and be translated into practical benefits for veterinarians and producers through extension activities and continuing education programs. This position will play a key role in sustaining and strengthening the department’s long-term capacity in beef research, clinical epidemiology, and industry engagement, while enhancing the department’s leadership in beef health and production research.

Teaching responsibilities will focus on clinical epidemiology and beef cattle health and production within both the undergraduate Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) curriculum and graduate programs. The successful candidate will, initially, be expected to contribute to the routine administrative activities of the department and college. Over time, the faculty member will be expected to become increasingly involved in college and university governance, as well as service to academic, professional, or scientific organizations.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative academic environment and will be supported by the Beef Cattle Research Council Chair in Beef Cattle Health, the Alberta Chair in Beef Cattle Health and Production Medicine, the Lead of the Disease Investigation Unit, two Professors of Teaching, and faculty with expertise in food animal theriogenology, large animal internal medicine, animal welfare and behavior research, and food animal field service. The department is also being considered for a Canada Excellence Research Chair (https://www.cerc.gc.ca/home-accueil-eng.aspx) in environmental sustainability in beef cattle production and is also currently recruiting a Professor of Teaching in Food Animal Health and Production.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A DVM degree (or equivalent);
• A PhD degree (or equivalent);
• A strong understanding of, and experience with, the North American beef cattle industry;
• Experience and familiarity with beef cattle practice in North America; and 
• A demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education.

Candidates with an MSc degree and actively completing a PhD may also be considered. Eligibility for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan (https://svma.sk.ca/become-a-member/dvm/); certification, or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Beef Cattle Practice or Food Animal Practice; certification, or eligibility for certification by the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine; and university level teaching experience will each be considered valuable assets.

The WCVM (https://wcvm.usask.ca/) is Western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine and currently enrolls about 360 undergraduate students from three western provinces and northern jurisdictions, as well as approximately 200 graduate students. Salary information for this position for the 2026-2027 academic year is as follows: $113,527 to $135,535. Salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
