The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Simon Fraser University (SFU) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting as early as July 15, 2027. This opportunity is limited to applicants who self-identify as Black. Pursuant to section 42(3) of the British Columbia Human Rights Code, the University received approval from the British Columbia Human Rights Commissioner to limit recruitment and hiring for various faculty positions to those who self-identify as Black. Qualifications:

Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in Psychology by the time of appointment with substantive research experience and interest in the field of Social Psychology. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate a strong record of (or potential for):

• a successful research program

• conducting rigorous, ethical, and transparent research

• excellence in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students

• administration and service contribution to the university and community

We especially value candidates who complement the Psychology Department’s ongoing commitment to provide teaching and mentoring to disadvantaged individuals or groups who are disadvantaged because of Indigenous identity, race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression. The ideal candidate will also support and contribute positively to the respectful, inclusive, and collegial culture of the Department of Psychology through open and collaborative engagement with colleagues, staff and students. The ideal candidate should conduct research that complements the existing Social Psychology Area's research expertise in social and close relationships and community, social identity and collective identity, and happiness and well-being.

The successful candidate’s duties will include conducting rigorous, ethical, and transparent research, teaching undergraduate and graduate classes, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and contributing to the department, university, and community through service.

A long-list of candidates will be invited to a 30-minute Zoom interview during which the candidates may be asked to give a short data blitz style research talk (10-minute) and respond to a few questions. Short-listed candidates will then be contacted for an in-person interview.

Faculty salaries at SFU are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the SFU Faculty Association. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for the Assistant Professor rank is $104,700 to $143,322, dependent on experience and inclusive of a market differential.
