1 Year Limited Term Instructor - Landscape Architecture

Dalhousie University invites applications from qualified candidates for the position of

Instructor in Landscape Architecture within the Department of Plant, Food, and

Environmental Sciences (PFES) in the Faculty of Agriculture. The position is a 1-year, full-time, limited-term appointment (100% FTE) at the rank of Instructor. The expected term of employment is from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. The successful candidate will fulfill Teaching (80%) and Service (20%) responsibilities.

About the Position
This teaching assignment addresses short-term program needs. The successful candidate will undertake teaching and service duties supporting our landscape programs and promote continuous improvement in learning and teaching at Dalhousie. They will instruct undergraduate students concurrently in both the diploma and
BLA
programs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a significant role in the development of our landscape programs, marketing, and outreach activities. The candidate is expected to be an active, engaged member of the Department, the Faculty, the University, and professional and industry organizations.
Teaching and Service Duties
The Instructor will instruct in-person courses , including two design studio courses on Site Design and Urban Design. Anticipated course topics include, but are not limited to, Landscape Theory, Environmental Processes, and other landscape architecture topics related to AutoCAD and/or Professional Practice.
Service duties will include:
Advising students in landscape-horticulture programs
Development of landscape-horticulture programs
Participating in program outreach activities
Professional development
Other related duties
The Successful Applicant Will:

Have full membership in the Atlantic Provinces Association of Landscape
Architects (APALA), Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA), or similar professional organizations 
Possess a graduate degree in landscape architecture, or closely related field of study.
Have the ability to communicate clearly with diverse learners. Possess the professional expertise 
to instruct courses effectively.
Be willing and able to support the development of the program, the Department, Faculty and the 
University.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, collegiality, and a record of successful collaboration.
Be a team-player and team-builder who can form productive relationships with allied academics, the 
profession, the industry, and others regionally and nationally.
Other Desirable Assets Include:
Professional experience related to the teaching or practice in areas described above.
Demonstrate excellence in university teaching at the undergraduate level. Familiarity with 
classroom and online instructional platforms and learning management systems.
Proficient in AutoCAD software and experienced in professional practice.
