Tenure Track Posting – School of Education – St. Thomas University

The School of Education at St. Thomas University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin January 1, 2027 or July 1, 2027, pending budgetary approval. 

St. Thomas University is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution with a full-time enrolment of  1,600. Its students graduate with Bachelor of Arts, Applied Arts, Education, and Social Work 

degrees. The faculty members are distinguished teachers, researchers and scholars, and the  university holds one Canada Research Chair. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence as a teacher and advisor and provide evidence of an active research program. The ability to teach any combination of the following undergraduate Bachelor of Education core program courses and/or methodology courses will be considered an asset. Specifically, we are seeking an individual whose practical expertise and research focus complement teaching experience in two or more of the following areas: 

• Assessment and Evaluation 
• Classroom Management 
• Early Literacies/Foundations of Reading 
• Indigenous Education and Reconciliation 
• Learning Exceptionalities 
• Middle/Secondary Social Studies and/or History Education 
• Physical, Health, and Wellness Education 
• School Law, Teacher Ethics, and Professional Conduct 

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, program development, and student advising in the teacher education program, as well as participate in university service activities. They will demonstrate excellence as a teacher and advisor and have a strong commitment to practice-based, social justice-oriented teacher education.

Requirements: 

• A completed or near-completed PhD or EdD in Education. 
• A Master of Education (or MA in related educational field). 
• A Bachelor of Education and eligibility for NB Teaching Certification Level VI. 
  1. A minimum of three years of recent, successful, full-time, contract teaching experience          in K-12 public education is required; more than five years is preferred. 
• An active or developing research agenda in a related field. 
• A developing or established record of scholarly work/publishing. 

• A commitment to teamwork and service within the faculty, university and the broader field of Education community (including building partnerships with public schools or community-based educational organizations). 
• The capacity to work effectively in a collaborative culture. 
• Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience at the university level and/or extensive experience in an administrative and supervisory capacity related to the professional development and evaluation of classroom teachers. 
• Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations, scholarship and/or experience working with BIPOC and/or 2SLGBTQIA+ communities will be considered assets. 
• Experience with Indigenous scholarship and/or experience working in Indigenous communities will be considered an asset.

(b) a curriculum vitae; 

(c) university transcripts for undergraduate and graduate coursework (unofficial transcripts are 

permissible); and 

(d) a teaching dossier that provides a statement of teaching philosophy and 

evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., teaching evaluations), samples of scholarly work, and/or professional contributions related to their field of expertise. Salary Range:

Assistant Professor (PhD required): $84,533 - $118,338

The salary range is prescribed by the Collective Agreement for Full-Time Faculty.
