The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant/Associate Professor within the Division of Pediatric Neurology in the Department of Pediatrics, with a focus on neuromuscular disorders.

This position is a 1.0 full-time equivalent and includes negotiated and committed protected time for research and other academic pursuits. The position will be a 60% clinical commitment to Stollery Children's Hospital and the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. Expertise in Electromyography and nerve Conduction Studies (EMG/NCS) is required.

The proposed position will be comprised of (but is negotiable):

• Clinical service: 60%
• Administration: 5%
• Research: 20%
• Clinical Teaching: 15%

The Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, is a full-service pediatric hospital and centre for complex pediatric care and research established in 2001. The Stollery is the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children and youth in central and northern Alberta serving a geographical area of over 500,000 km and has among the highest inpatient volumes of any children's hospital in Canada.

The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is the largest free-standing, comprehensive tertiary rehabilitation hospital in Canada, serving patients of all ages who require specialized rehabilitation to enable them to participate in life to the fullest. The Glenrose provides specialized programs and inpatient and outpatient pediatric services for children and youth with rehabilitation and complex care needs. As a fully accredited academic teaching hospital, the Glenrose participates in educational training programs for health sciences professionals and offers a range of research and technology development opportunities.

The successful applicant will join academic pediatric neurologists, developmental pediatricians, and pediatric physiatrists in providing a full spectrum of clinical services.

Clinical Responsibilities include:

• Pediatric Neurology inpatient and outpatient clinical services, including but not limited to Inpatient consultation and follow up (General service, Neuro-Critical Care Service), General and subspecialty outpatient clinics, as well as the On Call schedule.
• Pediatric Neurology consultation for diagnostic assessments (EMG/NCS) and follow-up at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital (GRH) (Pediatric Neuromuscular Clinic)
• +/- Pediatric Neurology EEG *(Based on qualification)

In addition to clinical care, the members of the division are active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, and have a fully accredited Pediatric Neurology subspecialty training program through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The division also has an active basic and clinical science research program, collaborating locally, nationally, and internationally.

Qualifications

Interested applicants must have:

• MD degree (or equivalent)
• Completed subspecialty training in Pediatric Neurology
• Completed a Pediatric Neuromuscular training, as well as be certified in EMG/NCS.
• Must be certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. See the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for more information on various routes of credentialing https://www.royalcollege.ca/en/credentials-exams/exam-eligibility.html.
• Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Considered an asset:

• Pediatric Electroencephalography (EEG) training and certification

Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be based on the income scale of a competitive and highly successful academic alternate funding plan.

WCHRI is a partnership between the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, with core funding support from the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation and the Alberta Women's Health Foundation. WCHRI is the only research institute in Canada and one of the few in the world to focus on women's, children's and perinatal health. Thanks to our funders' generosity, WCHRI is able to provide a broad range of support to research programs, including access to funding opportunities and research support services (e.g. biostatistics, qualitative design, KT, data management, clinical trials support, grant application development). WCHRI also invests in the next generation of researchers through graduate and summer studentships, postdoctoral fellowships and funding for trainee travel /presentation of research outcomes.
