Position Description

The DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the Marketing Area. The positions will begin on July 01, 2024. Appointment rank (Assistant or Associate) will depend on qualifications and research records. Exceptional candidates at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure may also be considered.

Successful candidates must have (or be very near completion of) a PhD in Marketing or closely related discipline by the time of appointment. We will consider soon-to-be PhD graduates as well as experienced PhD graduates. Successful candidates must demonstrate evidence of a strong scholarly record of publishing in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, or the potential to establish a strong scholarly record, and evidence of, or strong potential for, teaching excellence. For advanced candidates and Associate Professor candidates, we will look for demonstrated evidence of significant scholarship in the form of publications in top-tier peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Preference will be given to candidates who specialize in Marketing Analytics and Marketing Strategy.

Marketing Analytics: We are particularly interested in candidates in marketing or a related discipline with research expertise in AI, machine learning techniques, empirical studies on causal inference, or analytical modeling.

Marketing Strategy: We are seeking candidates with a research focus on, but not limited to, the field of innovation and new product development.

Successful candidates will be expected to conduct high-quality research with publications in top-tier marketing journals, actively pursue research grants, and have the ability and willingness to supervise graduate students. They will also be expected to contribute to the School’s undergraduate and graduate academic programs at both its Hamilton and Burlington locations through excellent teaching, course development, and student mentorship. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the School’s initiatives in the business and other external communities, and serve on School and University committees.

McMaster University was ranked 85th in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and recognized as Canada’s most research-intensive university – for both graduate students and faculty members – in the 2021 Research Infosource rankings. The AACSB-accredited DeGroote School of Business is one of six faculties at McMaster University, and we believe in experiential learning: complementing classroom studies with hands-on experience. The DeGroote School of Business strives to create a strong, supportive, and collegial research culture, building the research capacity of faculty and graduate students. Research resources available to successful candidates include access to multiple research centers and labs, widely used research databases as well as unique data archives.
