The Division of Geriatric Medicine and the Department of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, grant tenure track. Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Medicine the successful candidate is expected to maintain a strong record of peer-reviewed publication and secure funding through contracts, industry grants, or major research initiatives. They should actively disseminate their findings through conference presentations, invited lectures, public forums, or media coverage to reach both academic and broader audiences. The successful candidate will establish an independent research program using innovative approaches to the study of acute and chronic disease in older adults, functional issues in older adults, and the examination of factors that influence the healthy aging process. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the Department of Medicine, as well as provide mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners. The incumbent will also be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community. The successful candidate will contribute to fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and embodies values of collaboration, and equity and inclusion.

The successful candidate will hold an MD and must be eligible for registration by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia for subsequent arrangements to practice their subspecialty of Geriatric Medicine. A graduate degree in a related research discipline would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching and scholarly activity. They will have a developing track record of scholarly productivity in geriatric research, with the potential to achieve wide recognition in their field. The candidate will also show promise for meaningful contributions to academic and professional activities and the ability to establish themselves as a leader in research addressing the health and care of older adults, both nationally and internationally in academic and professional affairs.

In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own, and a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The expected salary for this position is $130,000 to 140,000 per annum.
